Memories

What quieting things memories are.
A place, a sound, a texture,
An old friend, a smell, a picture, a taste,
Can creep up on you so suddenly.

A feeling . . .
Warm and fulfilling,
Yet lonely and empty
At the same time.

A past event or experience,
But ever present
In daily existence
And new experience.

What a wonderful thing . . .
Reminding us where we've been
And where we're yet to go.
